A Tidewater Debate League member school competed at Wake Forest University's National Earlybird Tournament held September 10th - 12th in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

In the Junior Varsity division of policy debate, the Great Bridge High School team of Ellen Miller and Mariah Young went 4-2 in preliminary competition and advanced to Quarterfinals where they defeated Ft Lauderdale AZ (Florida) on a 3-0 decision. In Semifinals, they defeated Johns Creek KF (Georgia) on a 2-1 decision. In Finals, they dropped to Alpharetta BP (Georgia) on a 2-1 decision. Additionally, Ellen Miller took 6th-place JV speaker and Mariah Young took 3rd-place JV Speaker.
