Two Tidewater Debate League member schools were accepted to the Barkley Forum for High School Debate held January 23rd, 24th, and 25th at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. The Forum accepted only 79 schools this year and Kempsville High School and Frank W. Cox High School were the only schools from Virginia to be admitted. Acceptance is based on each applying debater's total record for the past two seasons and the field is always one of the most competitive, if not the most competitive, of the year.
Both the hybrid Kempsville and Cox team of Adora Parker (Kempsville) and Oliver Brass (Cox) and the Kempsville team of Jade Kreissler and Samuel Ross went 2-4 in preliminary competition and did not advance to elimination rounds.
